Peter Chanel Lauded

As news of the death of Peter Chanel spread, cardinals in Rome circulated a letter describing Chanel's gallant missionary life. Peter Chanel's fellow Marists also praised their brother's sacrificial life.  

Rev. Catherin Servant, SM, wrote to Jean-Claude Colin:

"Very Reverend Father, could I forget to talk to you about our good martyr. I already enjoy the consolation this news will bring to you. Father Chanel truly died for the cause of faith; one can only hope that many others will share his happiness."

And Joseph Chevron to his parents and Colin:

"...good Father Chanel went to Heaven to receive a beautiful crown, the crown of martyrdom."
